It's hard to believe, but Dr. Brewer joined the practice over five months ago. And now that we've gotten comfortable working together as a new team, we're slowly but surely making improvements around the office. Probably the most notable (so far) being our new iTero Element Intraoral Scanner.

When most people think of what's uncomfortable or unpleasant about orthodontic treatment, they usually go straight to... the GOOP. Until recently, patients would need to have molds of the mouth taken with a Silly Putty like substance in plastic trays that fit all the way into the back of the mouth. After 60 seconds, it would harden into an impression that would be used to make appliances. Not the most pleasant experience for patients, but it was painless and it worked. It was a perfectly good way of doing things. Thankfully, technology will never settle for something being good, when it could be great!

Today, we have the option of making braces, retainers, and other appliances with the help of our favorite new toy. The iTero Scanner makes everything about the process of taking impressions easier. For the patient, the doctors, the lab that makes the appliances - everyone! Each step in the process has been improved for a more comfortable experiences with fine-tuned accuracy.

Instead of a plastic tray and plaster, a comfortably sized wand is inserted into the patient's mouth with a scan capture time of 40-50 milliseconds. This means the patients and assistant can simultaneously see the scan being created on a high definition monitor.

Our favorite YouTube spokeswoman, Amy took some time to help us shoot a video so you could see the iTero machine at work. And a special thank you to Eriel for her cameo featuring the dreaded GOOP. If you have any questions about treatment or would like to schedule a complimentary consultation, please feel free to call us at the office!
