Going back to school can be exciting and nerve wracking, especially if you got braces during the summer. We want our patients to be proud of their tin grin and offer these tips to help ease the transition from carefree summertime to hitting the books and the back to school grind.

·Make it fun! Request rubber bands in your school colors to get back in the school spirit

·If you play sports, we recommend wearing a mouth guard. Be sure to ask at your next appointment about having one fitted.

·If you’re in the school band, there are no restrictions when it comes to playing a musical instrument while in treatment.

·Avoid hard, sharp, sticky and crunchy foods such as popcorn, nuts, hard chips, raw carrots, caramel and other chewy candies will loosen your braces.

· If you no longer wear braces, but are still using retainers, be sure to bring a retainer case with you to school to store the device during lunchtime.

· There’s a good chance you’re not the only student who got braces over summer break, so show off your smile to a fellow classmate who may be struggling going back to school with new braces.
